Comment by the judge:
Love it! I think it is the best work in terms of the theme of the work, the way of using materials (Kit Bashing), modeling technique and painting. First of all, we can clearly understand the theme and what the creator wants to convey even without explanation. The details of the driftwood and the plants on it also contribute well to the overall scale. The toy bowling pins blend so well into the work as if they were created especially for it. The painting also shows the “used” image and the overall tone is calm. Especially, the combination of the mechanical parts in the back of the tree and organic elements is very nice. (Masa Narita)

Comment by the judge:
In Mixingbuild, spaceships and robots tend to be created by combining plastic model parts and then pasting small parts on the surface. We can find many works that were created in this way, but I think it is quite difficult to create a Mixingbuild work that goes beyond that. In terms of originality, this motorcycle also looks similar to the motorcycle from “Akira (by Katsuhiro Otomo)”. However, although I noticed this, I still think that it is a great work since its design and mechanical parts are so perfect. For example, the part with a round hole in the center of the bike’s body is a sticky tape dispenser. But it is blends so well into the overall design and does not look like a sticky tape dispenser at all, so even if you realize it and look at the work again you will feel nothing odd. Rather, it seems to be one of the attractive points in design. I was attracted by the creator’s sense and skills. (Tatsuya Kaneko)

Comment by the judge:
Like it! I think its design is so good that it can be the next Star Wars fighter. Let’s call it T-wing. I especially like the asymmetry of the left and right sides. It would be better if the creator could paint weather effects. Carving the panel lines, adding small panels, or reducing the diameter of the model lines by half would give the model more of a sense of scale. The gold stripes are a nice highlight and pull the whole thing together. (Narita Masa)

Comment by the judge:
I am surprised at the high quality of the design, workmanship and coloring. I can’t tell what the original parts were, except the bowling pins. It is also amazing! I would like to see this work displayed on a larger base. (Kow Yokoyama)

Judge Tatsuya Kaneko Award

Venusuit of Wilendorf

Venusuit of Wilendorf

Comment by the judge:
As its appearance and title suggest, it is a modern or maybe a near-future flying machine in a form of Venus of Wilendorf that was excavated as a relic of the past. The silhouette is so feminine and soft that it is hard to imagine it was made from plastic model parts, gacha capsules and 100-yen items. I think its worldview is as unique as that of the original Venus, which was created more than 20,000 years ago. I was impressed by the creator’s perspective, modelling ability and great taste in giving the work a new interpretation as a figure with mixed structures. (Tatsuya Kaneko)

Comment by the judge:
It is a combination of simple materials. Hats off for the vividness and the aesthetic of this cute and lifelike robot. It’s the world’s luckiest empty can! I wonder if it can fly (lol). Where should we press? The pull ring? The cloak? (Yukihiro Suzuki)

Comment by the judge:
It is impossible to recognize the material if you don’t know what it is in advance. I was impressed by the “transformation” of the lactic acid beverage containers and thought “I can recognize this material after I was told about it”. The lighter on the front blends so well with the whole figure that you won’t notice it at the first sight. (MORIN CO.LTD)

三田真大

Comment by the judge:
It features an excellent and cool design. The creator made a very good use of containers from detergent and Yakult. The details of the panels and bolts on the containers add a good accent to the curved surface that may look a little bit empty. The uneven silvering and weathering make the plastic material look like metal. The facial expression and the crayfish hands attached to the inorganic body are very unique and interesting. (Narita Masa)

Comment by the judge:
The coloring of the whole body and the inclined pose make it look like a villain (monster) from a hero story of the Showa era. I would like to see it in the series. (Kow Yokoyama)

Comment by the judge:
A great impact! It is an incredible work that makes the extraordinary scene an ordinary scene. This is science fiction. (Yukihiro Suzuki)
